The rain came again today - you would think that I would catch on that it would be an unpredictable day along with it. It all started when the kids were running around the house this a.m. like chickens with their heads cut off into all kinds of mischief. I tried reminding them of the chores, that they needed to eat, needed to brush their hair, that the time they lost would never be recovered, that their school day would run into the time that other things would happen - did that deter my kids today.....NOPE!
The day progressed and the kids were sitting at the table doing their work while having a "laughfest" for no apparent reason other than the laughter of one child to another was contagious but the thing is there is only three of them and the laughter kept going and getting louder. That's IT! - my resolution - go get your fish tanks and let's clean the water in them (this is necessary it seems every other day). I have the two fishtanks lined up and the tadpoles that I am babysitting - I'm ready to change the water. The kids are now calming down, Mom is doing them a favor - so onto the next subject. First, I prep the tap water and let it sit while I dump out the old water of the fish tanks - the fish are safe and snug in a plastic cup (because the idea of fish poop in my drinking glasses just isn't appetizing). Tap water is now fine for the fish - put in the drops swish it around - drop the fish in and we are good to go.
Next up, the tadpoles I am babysitting. The water was pretty dirty so I was going to take out as much as I could. I hold the container over the sink and begin to dump the water and I see this speck of something out of the corner of my eye - the TADPOLE! It swam so stinkin' fast that it swam off the edge of the container and fell down my sink drain!!!! I freaked! The kids came running over because I said "oh, no" - the first thing out the kids mouths was you have to call Lorraine, you can't lie to her and replace the tadpole. I wasn't going to - I was going to try and rescue the tadpole. I unscrewed the pipes under my sink and started to look for the little guy - he was no where to be found. I thought that if I took the pipes apart by some small miracle, I would find the little guy swimming and I would be able to restore him to his rightful home. Well, it wasn't happening today. I called Lorraine to let her know the news so that she could break it to her girls. I will forever be known as the "One who killed our tadpole". I do have one left to tadpole sit and let me tell you if he wasn't a prince before he is one now! I only have 2 more days and I don't have to clean the water until the last day - I'm not set out to be a frog-sitter, I guess.
Do you ever wonder when a child starts to become a graffitti artist? I never really did until one day earlier this week. I was in my bathroom, having a quiet moment - they are very few, you know - when I look over to the wall and see something written on it. I know that writing - it is someone that lives in this house. What an odd thing to do - write on the wall in your own house but this is what it said:
I couldn't help but smile. I went out to my son, the graffitti artist, and let him know that I loved him too but could he please refrain from writing on the walls in our house or anywhere else. Good thing he asks before he uses the spray paint!
Hope your days are filled with graffitti "I Love You's" - if, not maybe you should write a few on a mirror, on a window frequently looked out of, a car windshield or maybe a little note in someone's wallet. I have a few to make that I will be spreading around my house :)
