We made it to a night showing by the skin of our teeth last week. It was so amazing to see the Chihuly Glass at night. We were obviously amidst some people that knew what they were doing with their cameras at night!
Karrie and I were turning the knobs like crazy on our cameras...changing the ISO and all sorts of things to see what kind of pictures we would get. I don't know how many times my shutter was stuck open because there wasn't enough light to take the picture.
We had a blast and the kids.....well....what can I say they were just as into as we were.
Those sculptures were at the entrance of the Gardens.
This is one of my favorite shots of the evening...
Simple shot of candles - on Thursday evenings the Gardens has Agave at Night. There was a DJ that was playing music with a bar available for those 21 and over.
This is one of Karrie's favorite pieces that Chihuly did - Pookie helped find the angle on this one.
With Karrie and I both taking pictures, I kept reminding the kids that we are in a "390 zone" and they needed to stay near. Literally, the day before I left on our trip, Hot Rocks called and told me that Phoenix had the second highest kidnapping rate in the WORLD after Mexico City. The number of kidnappings was over 390 last year. I explained to the kids that we needed to have our guards up while we were here and have each others "backs". Our code for staying close has become "390 zone" and the kids know that they need to pay more attention to where I am instead of wandering and exploring especially with me taking pictures.
These will always remind me of blue fingers. Sis thinks they are sprouts with water shooting out of them.
This is one of those pixs that I didn't know how to capture with the right settings. I think I spent 10 minutes standing there trying to take this one....
Ok - just imagine how this shot is suppose to look like.... the moon is just a sliver in the sky while the outline of it was slightly showing. The clouds trapsed across the sky in soft worm-like lines. There is a redness that illuminated the cacti and the shadow of a mountain stood in the background. Dog gone, it if I couldn't capture it - but I certainly have it captured in my mind ..... now if only I could draw!
This one reminds us of a catepillar....
I would love to have something like this in my backyard. It sits in river rocks with water running through it - kind of like a fountain but the water didn't spill out anywhere that I could see.
That was my adventure with night photography - improvement needed but fun abundant!
HOW FANTASTIC!! We will def need to visit in August. OK, so thanks for sharing about the kidnapping rate. Sad, but good to know beforehand.

We rocked the 390 zone that night. I don't know what Rob was talking about. Who would take your kids? They would send them back for SURE!!! LOLOL
